Frequently asked questions:

My window is dirty and/or foggy in the middle.  Can it be cleaned?

When you have a window that is foggy and dirty, the insulated glass panel will need to be replaced.  The moisture seal in between the two pieces of glass has absorbed all of the moisture it could.

My windows are difficult to open and close.  Do they need to be replaced?

If your windows are currently difficult to open and close, they do not necessarily need to be replaced unless you're looking for a nice new window.  In this situation there is a counterbalance that assists in the opening and closing of the window.  The counter balance has likely worn out and needs to be replaced along with the lower pivot assembly.  In this situation we will change out both sides to have the window working like brand new again!

What type of glass do I have?

The type of glass depends on the location of the glass - a door, window, distance from the ground etc. The glass in your specific scenario will depend on these factors.

Do I have Low-E glass?

One of the ways you can tell if you have Low-E glass is if it looks like it has a colored tint to it.  When the glass is broken it's very easy to tell but, for general personal knowledge, you can take a match or a lighter on each side of the window to see if the reflection is a different color.

What is tempered glass?

Tempered safety glass is created either by a temperature or chemical treatment.  Once it goes through the tempering process, the glass will break into diamond sized pieces in order to minimize injuries.  Tempered safety glass is generally used for doors, windows next to doors, or, windows that are close to the ground.  Most stationary windows in the home are likely not safety glass and do not have to be.

How long will my glass repair take for my home?

The duration for home window repairs can vary.  If you have a removable window sash, these repairs are generally faster and can take between 45 - 70 minutes if being repaired on site.  Larger picture or fixed windows may take longer if they need to be ordered which requires one trip for measurements/orders and the second trip for installation.  Once the glass is on site, it will generally take between 1-2 hours to complete the window replacement.

Only one side of my window is broken.

Even though only one side of the glass is broke, the entire unit needs to be replaced. In most circumstances, an insulated window is two pieces of glass that are glued together using forms of butyl or silicone with a moisture absorbent in between which keeps the window from fogging.  In a few situations, there are single pieces of glass glued separately to a flange within the window system itself.  In situations where it is separate, they are strictly in front bay/bow windows.

Same day glass repairs are subject to scheduling, type of glass repairs and other issues that may arise. Same Day Glass Rep[air does not guarantee same day service of any kind.
